Eco-Inject lands £5.2m in funding led by Adjuvo to simplify how patients self-inject treatments with a bio-based autoinjector

Eco-Inject develops a redesigned autoinjector platform for delivering patient-administered injectable medicines. Its device reduces complexity and carbon emissions while remaining compatible with existing pre-filled syringes used by pharmaceutical companies.

Eco-Inject, a medical device startup reinventing the autoinjector, has raised £5.2 million in equity funding led by Adjuvo. The funding will enable it to scale up its reinvented autoinjector and move into commercial-scale manufacturing with partners, meeting GMP regulatory standards.

Autoinjectors are increasingly central to the delivery of patient-administered injectable therapies, driven by the rise of injectable treatments and the uptake of GLP-1 drugs. More than 500 million autoinjectors are used annually, with the market expected to reach 2 billion units by 2030, yet market-leading devices remain complex disposable products typically made from 9–11 plastic components and often incinerated as medical waste. Eco-Inject’s patented platform uses a simplified, bio-based design with fewer components to reduce carbon emissions without adding cost while maintaining compatibility with existing pre-filled syringes.

Founded by medical device development veteran John Palmer-Felgate, Eco-Inject developed its device by redesigning autoinjectors from first principles while addressing regulatory, technical, and sustainability requirements.

The funding will support commercial-scale manufacturing and help it meet regulatory standards. Its platform allows pharmaceutical partners to adopt sustainable drug delivery without changes to fill-finish processes, supply chains, or patient training.

Sustainability isn't our mission. It's our method. We didn't set out to just make a 'green' product. We set out to remove complexity and to select materials that complimented our design from the start. When we removed the complexity, the carbon emissions came out with it. This over-subscribed investment from our investors validates our approach and allows us to deliver a solution that requires no compromises for our pharma and biotech customers.

Eco-Inject is redefining what autoinjectors can be – sustainable, scalable, and ready to meet the demands of today’s healthcare market. Adjuvo is hugely excited to support the team as they commercialise this platform and deliver more cost-effective autoinjectors to healthcare providers and users in everyday care.
