Fuse Diagnostics raises £1m in funding led by The FSE Group for instrument-free tests that detect pathogens outside the laboratory

Fuse Diagnostics develops rapid molecular diagnostic tests that detect pathogens and contaminants without specialist laboratory infrastructure. Its Flip platform pairs proprietary amplification technology with a low cost, disposable test design, giving industrial and research teams laboratory-quality results in the environments where testing is actually needed.

Fuse Diagnostics, a developer of next-generation molecular diagnostics for point-of-need testing, has raised £1 million in funding led by The FSE Group, joined by existing angel investors alongside new angel investors including Cambridge Capital Group. Based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, Fuse will use the investment to commercialise its proprietary Flip product platform and expand manufacturing capabilities at its headquarters.

The Flip platform combines proprietary amplification technology with a low cost, disposable test design to enable rapid detection of pathogens and contaminants without specialist laboratory infrastructure. That instrument-free approach is designed to support a broad pipeline of molecular diagnostic tests that deliver laboratory-quality performance while reducing the complexity, equipment requirements and delays associated with centralised, specialist testing. Gold-standard molecular diagnostics are currently limited to use in specialist laboratories, and Fuse is targeting markets where speed, reliability and decentralised access to results are critical, offering simple, rapid and highly accurate tests for pathogens and contaminants onsite.

Founders Harry and Ralph Lamble previously founded Sense Biodetection, where they developed the world's first rapid instrument-free molecular diagnostic test, Veros COVID-19, during the pandemic. Following the acquisition of Sense by Sherlock Biosciences in 2023, the brothers applied their experience of clinical product development and commercialisation to the demand for rapid onsite pathogen testing across industry.

The funding will accelerate growth of the Flip product portfolio across six strategic sectors spanning life sciences research, bioprocessing, food safety, water quality, veterinary diagnostics and plant agriculture. Supporting the full commercialisation journey, the raise will also enable Fuse to advance its assay development pipeline, including validation with strategic industry partners, scaling of manufacturing capabilities and expansion of commercial reach.

This funding marks an important step in commercialising our Flip product platform and validating new assays with strategic partners across sectors where rapid, decentralised testing can make a meaningful difference. Built on years of scientific and engineering development, Flip is designed to give researchers faster, simpler tools for detecting pathogens and contaminants, helping to prevent disease and protect products, biological processes and the environment.

The FSE Group is excited to support the scaling of Fuse's technology, which has been designed to address sector-specific challenges and meet demand for rapid laboratory-quality diagnostic tests across multiple industries. By combining shared technology, manufacturing and commercial infrastructure with applications beyond traditional healthcare settings, Fuse has the potential to build valuable global partnerships, delivering value and real-world impact.
