London-based healthtech startup Nila has raised an oversubscribed £1.8m pre-seed round led by LocalGlobe, with participation from Redbus Ventures and angels connected to Revolut, Wise, and Nala.
Nila provides an AI-powered platform that helps immigrants manage healthcare and caregiving for elderly relatives overseas, starting with India and set to expand across Asia, including the Philippines. The new capital will be used to grow the team, enhance the platform, and extend its reach into new regions.
The company was founded less than a year ago by Anthony Jacob, a former Taptap Send executive, through Founders Factory’s Aviva fintech venture studio. The idea stemmed from Jacob’s personal challenges arranging care for his parents in Sri Lanka during the pandemic. Since launch, Nila has handled over 3,000 care requests across 10 Indian cities - including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, and Kolkata - while maintaining zero customer churn.
At the centre of Nila’s model is an AI-enabled care coordination system built around proprietary cross-border payments and a network of “Nila Certified” carers. These professionals are trained in geriatric care and safeguarding, supporting tasks from home visits and medication tracking to medical appointments and payment handling on behalf of families abroad.
Customers in the UK and US pay around $100 per month for continuous support and companionship services through Nila’s network of local and telehealth partners. Over the next 12 to 18 months, the company plans rapid expansion in major Indian metros before entering wider Asian markets.
