Pontiro secures £360k in funding led by SFC Capital to automate NHS medical imaging data

Pontiro provides a platform that enables NHS organisations to safely use medical imaging data for research and clinical AI. It automates anonymisation, validation, and workflow processes within hospital systems.

Pontiro, a healthtech startup enabling safe and compliant use of medical imaging data for research and AI, has raised £357,500 in funding from SFC Capital, with participation from Plug and Play Ventures and the British Business Bank. It provides infrastructure that replaces manual processes with automated tools built directly into hospital systems.

Its platform has processed more than 2 million medical images across NHS Wales, supporting secure anonymisation, AI validation, and teaching workflows. By embedding tools inside hospital environments, it enables healthcare organisations to use imaging data safely while maintaining compliance requirements.

In 2026, it will launch an AI evaluation and ROI measurement platform developed through a £50,000 Innovate UK Growth Catalyst grant. The funding will support expansion into NHS England trusts and progression towards inclusion on national procurement frameworks.

The platform is deployed across multiple NHS Wales health boards and was built alongside NHS teams to support real-world clinical use.

Pontiro was built inside the NHS, alongside the teams who use it every day. That matters. With this investment, we're taking infrastructure that already works at scale in Wales and making it available to trusts across the country who are navigating the same challenges.

Pontiro has built proven, compliant infrastructure inside the NHS, processing over two million medical images. Their move into AI evaluation and ROI measurement addresses a real and growing need. We're pleased to back the team as they scale this beyond Wales.
