Strolll, a software as a medical device startup, has raised £4.3m in funding from Innovate UK, comprising a £3.6m innovation loan and a separate £700k Growth Catalyst Investor Partnerships (GCIP) award. Alongside the GCIP award, more than £1m in private investment has been led by IW Capital, with participation from Cleveland Clinic and Future Planet Capital Regional.
Delivered through off-the-shelf augmented reality glasses, the clinically proven and patented platform provides neurorehabilitation to patients living with neurological disorders. Blending digital content with the real world, therapy is supported in both clinic and home settings, making rehabilitation more engaging and easier to access while helping clinicians support patients through their recovery.
A global ageing population is driving up the prevalence of neurological disorders, with the World Health Organisation estimating that more than one in three people worldwide are affected. Demand for rehabilitation and ongoing support is growing as a result.
The £3.6m innovation loan funds StrolllAssessment, a platform that uses AI to automate the clinical validation of digital neuro-motor assessments. The loan will also support a fully equipped biomechanics lab at Strolll's office in Stafford, designed to mirror real-world rehabilitation settings and allow multiple validation studies to run concurrently, potentially reducing a process that traditionally takes years to just months while providing a scalable, standards-compliant approach to validating automated clinical assessments.
Under a separate project, the £700k GCIP award and the investor funding will introduce StrolllAcute, a bedside-first augmented reality rehabilitation system designed specifically for acute, bed-bound patients. Early therapeutic intervention becomes possible without changing existing ward workflows or increasing staff burden.
Our team is committed to revolutionising rehabilitation for those living with neurological disorders. This funding will help us accelerate our mission to increase patient engagement, support progression and help clinicians deliver effective neurorehabilitation to a wider patient population.
Since our initial investment, Strolll has continued to make strong progress in developing technology that addresses clear challenges within physiotherapy and neurorehabilitation. We're pleased to continue backing Strolll as it enters its next phase of growth, and we look forward to seeing further expansion of its technology platform to improve patient access and outcomes.
Across two innovations, Strolll has secured Innovate UK backing because it has proven both its technical excellence and a credible route to commercial success. De-risking later stage innovation through debt finance while providing grant alongside private capital demonstrates how Innovate UK is committed to providing the right product at the right time to accelerate innovation and fuel catalyse business growth.
