Tallia lands a £3m seed round led by Outward VC to help tax advisers research and draft advice with traceable sources

Tallia is building an AI research and drafting platform for professional tax advisers that links every answer to legislation, HMRC guidance and case law. It connects external tax knowledge with a firm's own documents, templates and prior work, and runs inside Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Tallia, an AI platform that helps tax advisers research and draft advice, has raised a £3 million seed round led by Outward VC. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) invested alongside Outward, with Portfolio Ventures, Expedite Capital, Paul Forster, Angus Miln and angel investors from the tax, legal and technology sectors also taking part. Tallia will use the funding to bring the platform to more tax firms.

Tallia takes advisers from a client's first question to a finished deliverable, with every claim traceable to legislation, HMRC guidance and case law. The platform covers research, drafting, review and export into a firm's own branded documents, and works inside Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Its knowledge graph maps how legislation, reliefs, guidance and precedent relate to one another, so the AI model reasons over connected context instead of isolated chunks of text. The UK tax code has roughly quadrupled in a generation, advisers can lose up to two hours a day to research, and partner rates routinely exceed £1,000 an hour. General-purpose AI models still struggle to pass the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) exams and cannot provide the audit trail that tax work requires.

Tallia works with Alvarez & Marsal, ICAEW, Cooper Parry, Unity Advisory and Ostberg Sinclair & Co. ICAEW, founded by Royal Charter in 1880, has more than 211,000 members and students across 150 countries, and chose Tallia as its partner to evaluate and deploy AI for the profession. The round is ICAEW's first direct investment in an AI company, and it plans to develop a product with Tallia. On a CTA Advanced Technical question, GPT-5 on its own scored 48%, against 93% with Tallia's approach. Teams using Tallia save over five hours per fee earner each week, and a Budget Desk launched for the Autumn Budget answers questions straight from GOV.UK documents.

Tallia was founded in 2025 by Jack Mander and Alexander Bartlam, who met as teenagers on an Army scholarship. Jack Mander qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser and spent five years in tax at PwC and Deloitte. Alexander Bartlam went on to the Army, rising to Captain and serving as a Royal Signals Technology Lead. Tallia is hiring engineers and commercial leaders, and plans to add more jurisdictions and deeper workflows.
