OpenOrigins, a blockchain software to combat deepfakes, expands globally with £3.5m from Galaxy

OpenOrigins develops blockchain-based software that authenticates digital media at the point of capture, enabling organisations to verify the origin of images and videos and combat misinformation and deepfakes.

OpenOrigins, a London-based startup, has raised £3.5m in a seed round led by Galaxy Interactive. Founded by CEO Manny Ahmed, OpenOrigins provides a blockchain-based solution to authenticate digital media, allowing newsrooms and other sectors to verify photos and videos in real-time or retrospectively. The company's point-of-capture software confirms content creation by humans and can review extensive archives to validate existing media. This approach helps secure the integrity of internet content, especially in sectors like news and insurance.

Already collaborating with ITN, the new funding will enable OpenOrigins to expand into markets such as India and the United States and establish a marketplace for licensing verified content for AI training. The funds will also help the company grow its commercial team, particularly in the United States, and focus on preserving trustworthy archives as AI content advances rapidly.
