Our Rainwater has secured investment from SFC Capital, marking a significant milestone in its mission to transform rainwater management through data-driven solutions. The funding will enable the company to expand and enhance its platform, positioning it to support UK water companies in delivering AMP8 from 2025 to 2030.

The UK-based startup is pioneering a new approach to rainwater management - one that goes beyond infrastructure installation by setting a new standard for effective and sustainable practices in the sector.

Co-founder and CEO Sarah Bunney brings over 20 years of experience in flood risk management within the UK water sector, combining technical expertise with a collaborative, problem-solving approach. Co-founder and Chief Research & Innovation Officer Dr Peter Melville-Shreeve, a full-time professor at the University of Exeter, contributes academic expertise focused on stormwater intelligence. Chairman Julien Lancha adds strategic leadership, drawing on his background in sustainability, behavioural science, and digital innovation.

Backed by Innovate UK funding, Our Rainwater developed and launched the UK’s first dedicated rainwater management platform. The platform was piloted through an Ofwat Innovation project in partnership with four water companies, and received national recognition in 2024 with a Susdrain SuDS Award in the Regeneration and Retrofit category for its Community Centric Rainwater Management Project with Thames Water.

Since launching, the company has delivered multiple pilot projects across the UK, generating revenue and measurable impact. Through integrated optimisation modelling, real-time monitoring, and meaningful engagement, each project delivers practical, data-led outcomes. The platform has seen thousands of sign-ups, with a customer rating above 4.5 out of 5 stars and 100% of users saying they would recommend the service.

The team combines expertise across water management, technology, and engagement - from flood risk and hydrological modelling to web development, marketing, and communications. This multidisciplinary approach underpins the delivery of technically robust, user-focused solutions with lasting impact.

The new funding will be used to scale the team and accelerate product development. This includes expanding technical capabilities, enhancing platform features, and increasing delivery capacity. The company aims to become a key partner to the UK water sector as it tackles environmental, resilience, and innovation targets - reducing surface water flooding and sewer spills into waterways.

We’re excited to share we have successfully secured investment from SFC Capital marking a significant milestone in our journey to transform rainwater management through data-driven solutions. This provides us with resources to expand and enhance our platform, positioning us to support UK water companies in the delivery of AMP8 from 2025 to 2030. We’re incredibly grateful to our early supporters and partners who believed in our mission – and this is just the beginning.
